Board of Education to consider placing bond question on November ballot

The School District 27J Board of Education will consider placing a $248 million bond question on the November 2015 ballot at their upcoming meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Stuart Middle School. The bond is needed to renovate and upgrade aging schools; improve security and safety at all district facilities; and reduce overcrowding by enlarging current schools as well as building additional schools.

Teacher honored with "Best Should Teach" Award

27J's Sheri' Spenhoff is one of five public school teachers honored with the University of Colorado Boulder's "Best Should Teach" award. The Best Should Teach Initiative, started in 1996, acknowledges excellence in teaching and academic leadership.

Spenhoff, the new administrative dean at Southeast Elementary, was previously an instructional coach at Turnberry Elementary. She, along with the other recipients, were recognized during a ceremony Aug. 20 on the CU campus.

    Farner appointed to 27J Board of Education

The School District 27J Board of Education appointed its newest director at its meeting Aug. 11. 
Kyle Farner, a veteran educator and 27J parent, was appointed to represent    
District 4. 
Farner was raised in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High
School. He is a veteran educator, having taught social studies for nearly a    
decade. He is currently the assistant principal of student services at The
Academy of Charter Schools in Westminster. Farner and his wife, also a
Brighton High
graduate, have two young children: a second-grader at Pennock   Elementary and a pre-school student. Farner’s appointment is until November 2015. He has the option to seek election in November to fulfill the remaining     two years of the former director’s term.
School District 27J is seeking eligible candidates for five open 27J Board of Education director

A new school year will soon start in School District 27J and, while it means new opportunities and   challenges for students and staff, it also presents options for parents and community members to
