Schools to honor first responders, veterans

27J students will use Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, as an opportunity to honor veterans as well as emergency first responders.
Prairie View High Student Government hosts breakfast for emergency first responders who serve the Prairie View area at 9:30 a.m. at the school.(
Vikan Middle School National Junior Honor Society students will host their free, annual Veterans Day dinner from 5 to 7 p.m., at the school. All local veterans are invited to attend.

27J voters approve $248 million bond to build schools


School District 27J voters approved a $248 million bond proposal Nov. 3 to build five new district schools over the next five years and make millions of dollars of improvements to existing schools.

“The passage of 3C is an investment in our students and in our communities. We understand the tremendous amount of trust placed in us by district voters. We will uphold this trust by delivering the construction of new schools and improvements to existing schools on time and on budget," said 27J Superintendent of Schools Dr. Chris Fiedler.

Five elected to serve on Board of Education

Voters have elected five community members to serve on the School District 27J Board of Education, according to unofficial final election results released by the Adams County Clerk and Recorder’s Office and the Weld County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. 

Incumbent director Roberta Thimmig will serve a second four-year term for District 1. Incumbent Gregory Piotraschke, who was appointed to the board in May 2013 and elected to a two-year term in November 2013, will serve a four-year term in District 7. Teresa A. Gallegos, who was appointed to the board in November 2012 and elected to a two-year term in November 2013, will serve a four-year term in District 6. Kyle Farner, appointed to the board in August 2015, will serve the remainder of a two-year term in District 4.

The only newcomer to the board is Lloyd Worth, who was elected to a four-year term in Director District 3. Directors will be sworn in during a special meeting at 7 p.m., Nov. 19, at the Educational Service Center, 18551 E. 160th Ave., Brighton.
