Children's Hospital brings asthma program to 27J schools


School District 27J's ongoing partnership with Children's Hospital Colorado has produced another benefit this year as the hospital has expanded its Step Up Asthma Program to a several district schools.


The free program, offered at North, Northeast, South and Southeast elementary schools, will allow students diagnosed with asthma, to get year-long assessments and  important asthma-related education for the student and their family.

Kindness is focus for Brantner, South students

Students at Brantner and South elementary schools have started the year not only thinking about their learning goals  but also about how they treat each other.


Students at the schools recently took part in a pair of kindness activities designed to get them thinking about how they can be better friends and siblings and also how they can have a positive impact on their home, school and community.

Next round of bond renovations being planned for 2017 

With the construction of two new district schools well under way and a frenzied summer of building improvements complete, the School District 27J bond construction team is turning their focus to several large building renovation projects scheduled to get started in 2017. 

Renovation projects are tentatively scheduled to begin next calendar year on Brighton High School, Vikan and Overland Trail middle schools and Northeast Elementary.

Applicants needed for open board director seat 

The School District 27J Board of Education is looking for a new director in District 6, following the resignation of former director Teresa Gallegos


Gallegos, who had served on the board since 2012, is moving out of the district area she represents. Interested District 6 residents are encouraged to learn more about application criteria and submit an application at

Community generosity adds up for students in need

Since the start of the 2016-17 school year, a number of businesses and organizations have made a difference in the lives of 27J students through their generosity.


From crayons to notebooks to gently-used sports equipment, school supplies continue to roll into the 27J Educational Services Center, all earmarked for students and families in need.


“Our department and students greatly appreciate all the companies and individuals who provided us with supplies,” said Sallynn Duran, 27J Family Outreach Case Manager. “If we did not have them we would have not been able to serve the amount of families we did."

All Fun and Games

Brighton High School students participated in class games Sept. 15 as part of the school's week-long Homecoming celebration. Activities included the annual community parade and wrap up with a home football game against Heritage High School at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16.  Prairie View High School will host Homecoming festivities the week of Sept. 19-Sept. 24.
