October 17-21 is National School Bus Safety Week and, in honor of this important week, the School District 27J Transportation Department, is sponsoring a drawing/coloring contest for bus-riding students.
Drawing/Coloring Contest this year is exclusively for students registered in District 27J’s School Bus Transportation Services. Each participating student may submit one paper/poster for their category: Division #1— Grades K—3; Division #2—Grades 4—5 Division #3—Grades 6—8 and Division #4—Grades 9—12. All posters and intellectual property rights will become the property of District 27J upon receipt and may not be returned to the artist, his/her parents/legal guardians, etc. Judging will be conducted by our Superintendent of Schools: Dr. Chris Fiedler, Chief Operating Officer: Terry Lucero, Director Of Transportation: Edie Dunbar. In the event of a deadlock a member of the Transportation Committee will make the deciding vote from the three finalists.
Division #1 and Division #2 Specifications:
Drawings/Coloring is to be done on the page provided, for their Division, which will be handed out by their driver. Parents may assist their student with the written statement (Division #1) or crossword puzzle (Division #2); but NOT the drawing. The drawing should relate to the theme stated below. Be mindful that markers may bleed through and is not recommended. All areas must be completed.

Division #3 and #4 Specifications:
Drawings must be submitted on quality tag, poster board or heavy paper the size of 11” X 17” or 12” X 18”. Posters may be illustrated on the vertical or horizontal axis. There is no limitation to the type of media—as long as it fits on the dimensions specified and able to easily frame. Lettering and drawing must be freehand and of the artist own rendering. They may not incorporate any copyrighted characters, photographs, magazine and newspaper illustrations.
There must be a 3 X 5 card / entry blank securely fastened to the back of the poster which includes the student’s name, grade, age, School Name , Parent’s Name/ Signature and contact phone number, Route number and Driver’s Name. (Download entry blank)
Drawings must be original, correct in safety concept and the exclusive work of the student entering the contest in idea, design and execution. All artwork should be positive in approach, demonstrating only proper school bus safety behaviors. At least part of a yellow school bus, either inside or the outside, must be present in the poster.
Poster Theme: What School Bus Safety Means To Me
All Entrees must be returned to the Student’s Driver or dropped off at Transportation Main Office (303-655-2991) at 11701 S. Potomac ST Brighton, CO 80601; by 1 p.m., Monday, October 24th. A winner will be announced the following week.
The winners for each division will be awarded a prize valued at $50.00.
